Homemade Laundry Soap That Is Even HE Safe

Homemade Laundry Soap That Is Even HE Safe

Today I am going to share with you how to make your own homemade laundry soap. I have been doing this for a while now and have saved a ton of money.  I started doing this after I stumbled upon a video on youtube.com on how to make your own laundry soap. After watching the video I was sold. So, I started my research and went to town watching tutorial after tutorial, and reading review after review until I felt assured that I had the best recipe out there.

You are going to need Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, Borax, and Fels-Naptha. You can find all three items on the laundry isle in Wal-Mart or your local grocery store. Total cost is less than $6.00. With one batch you’re going to make 64 loads worth of laundry soap for $0.94! That’s .14 cents a load. You do the math and you’ll be blown away by how much money you are going to save making your own laundry soap.

You’re also going to need a 5 gallon b
ucket with a lid. You can find one at HomeDepot for about $4.00. Now you are ready to make your own Laundry Soap!

You will only need to use 1/3 of the bar of the Fels-Naptha soap per batch. Each batch is 2 gallons worth of Laundry Soap. Start by cutting the bar of soap into three equal pieces. Go ahead and wrap up two of the pieces and store them away until you need to make your next batch and shred the one remaining  piece of the bar with a cheese grater.

You’re going to need something for measuring and something to stir with. If you have an immiscible blender go ahead and use it, but if you are like me and not so lucky, a large spoon or paint stick will work just fine.
Now to make the soap:
Start by pouring 1/2 a gallon of water into a pot and bring it to a boil.  Very slowly add your 1/3 bar of shredded Fels-Naptha a little bit at a time and bring back to boil. (NOTE: It is very important that you make sure the soap is completely dissolved. Otherwise your finished product will have clumps!) Ok, it’s not that big of a deal. If you do get clumps don’t worry they will dissolve in the wash, but if you are anything like me it is a very big deal because the clumps just bug me!

Now back to making the soap. Once your Fels-Naptha has completely melted go ahead and add 1/2 cup of Borax and 1/2 cup of Arm & Hammer washing soda. You are going to let this boil on medium for about 5 minutes, it will become thicker as you stir and all the soaps combine.
Next add the remaining 1.5 gallons of cold water to your bucket and pour your soap mixture into the cold water and start to stir. You will notice it starting to gel almost immediately.

Like I mentioned before you can use your blender if you have one. If you are like me you can do it by hand or with a large spoon or paint stick. I have also seen a few people using their drill with a paint mixer attached to the end of it.
After you have mixed it completely cover it with the lid and let sit for 24 hours.

After 24 hours you will see that the soap has solidified into a goopy gel like substance. You need to stir, stir, stir until you have broken down all goopy clumps and are left with a nice silky creamy texture!
Once you are done with all that stirring, you can go ahead and pour it into your container and it is ready for use.

Note: 1/2 cup per load and you want to shake the bottle before each use!
This recipe made 2 gallons of laundry soap which should wash about 64 loads of laundry. This soap is totally safe for people who have allergens to fragrance and other soaps, like my fianceAnother great thing about this product is that it is completely compatible with HE machines.
Ok onto the cost: Fels-Naptha = $0.46 a batch, Washing Soda $.029 a batch, Borax $0.17 a batch. So for 64 loads of laundry soap it costs $0.92 that is $.014 a load!
Coming soon I will add photos and my testimony on this product!
